First Memory
There was screaming and sounds of swords colliding with one another. Blood was everywhere and the bodies of two people, a man and a women, were collapsed before him. The clothing was old, reminiscent of times long gone. Brightly colored robes with embroidery, jade hair sticks in dark hair that cascaded to both their waists. And large dark pools of blood, spreading across the rich silks.
His heart felt like it wanted to explode and tears were running down his face without even understanding why. It was like he knew these people but he was sure he had never seen them before. He wanted so badly to cover his ears and try to block away the screams while wanting to add his own to them, but he felt frozen in place as if he couldn't look away even if he wanted to. Why was this happening to him?
And then it was over. Wei Wuxian had the image burned into his brain as if he had actually lived it, but instead of the sounds of war there is only the sounds of the city again. What kind of terrible hangover was this? He was still very out of it when the men came and tried to explain it was a memory.
If that was his past life...he wanted nothing to do with it. There was no way that could have been something that really happened. It was too horrifying. But those emotions he felt were real, as if he had just seen his parents killed and he had been powerless to stop it. As someone who never actually knew his parents, that was a feeling he couldn't quite shake.
No one was going to know about this. He wasn't going to ruin the good thing he had going because of some messed up daydream he had. He stuck his headphones in and turned away from the people who were trying to explain it to him. He definitely didn't want to hear any of this.
Second Memory
He felt his heart freeze up in his chest as he looks around for the source of the voice. He can also hear another man shouting. He hears himself shouting for his senior sister. Sister...the him of the past had a family and that family is currently in trouble. He looks around, seeing her just as she gets attacked by one of the people in bloodied robes.
He cries out and two men rush towards her as she falls. Caught by a man in rich purple robes, he looks up at Wei Wuxian like this is all his fault. Wei Wuxian kneels down in front of her, he can feel the tears flowing from his eyes.
"Xian..why did you run? You moved so fast I couldn't see your face.." Her voice is soft, weakening with each word. He reaches out to touch her but her eyes widen and she pushes him back. The flash of a sword goes past his eyes and embeds itself into her chest.
The two men cry out as blood flows from her lips. The sword withdraws and the attacker stumbles back.
"I wasn't aiming for her! I wasn't.." He had been aiming for Wei Wuxian. But this beautiful young women dressed in white mourning clothes accepted the attack in his stead. As the last breath passes from her body, sadness and anger course through his body and he screams into the air.
Only to wake up moments later in a cold sweat and his heart wanting to beat out of his chest.
Third and Fouth Memories
He was falling. Dropped from the sky after flying along on a sword, held up by two men who clearly had just finished beating the crap out of him. What did he ever do to deserve the treatment? But it didn't matter now. He was falling, likely to his death. Can anyone really survive from a fall of that distance?
Except he does. He lands in a dark place, bones scattered everywhere around him. He tries to move but his entire body feels broken from hitting the ground. He can't see as the black energy of spirits swirls all around him. How will he ever survive this place that is surrounded by death?
Burial Mounds. The words enter his mind and he knows that this is the name of this dreadful place. How appropriate considering he is sure he will die in this place.
FOURTH
He's being chased. Just a child of only a few years but the fear he feels fills his entire body and has him shaking all the way down to his core. He is running as fast as he can, the sounds of their growling and barking growing ever closer to his heels.
Dogs. Vicious and looking for blood. He was hungry and the only way to get food was to steal it from them. But that came with a price. Perhaps the price of his life as he was now fleeing from their snapping jaws.
Fifth Memory
A sister. Not by blood, but it didn't matter. She was as much family to him as any actual parent could have ever been. The same could be said by the man in purple by his side. Jiang Cheng and Yanli. They weren't his own siblings, but he felt the love of one.
They shared soup. Lotus root, his favorite. Only because of the way she made it for him. Nothing ever tasted quite as good as her cooking. And it had been months since he had been able to have any. They were estranged because of things he had done, but they still went so far to include him.
He would cherish this last dinner with his family.
